Wendell Young

Wendell is a lifelong resident of Cincinnati and a graduate of Cincinnati Public Schools. After four years in the U.S. Air Force, he was honorably discharged and joined the Cincinnati Police Department, where he obtained the rank of Sergeant.
After 25 years of service in law enforcement, Wendell joined the City�s Personnel Department and served as the Assistant Director of Personnel/Equal Employment Opportunity Officer. After seven years, he returned to the Police Department to serve as the Assistant to the Police Academy Commander and as a mentor and trainer to police recruits. A year later, Wendell was recruited to the Metropolitan Sewer District of Greater Cincinnati and served as Diversity Manager and the Training Institute Director. He currently teaches Government and Public Administration and Law and Public Safety courses at Aiken High School.
Wendell has been active in several community organizations. He was president of The Sentinel Police Association, and the Cincinnati Branch NAACP, and a two-time president of the Cincinnati Chapter National Forum for Black Public Administrators (NFBPA). He is also a former board member of the National Black Police Association and Cincinnati's Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP). Additionally, he has hosted weekly radio and television public affairs programs, and was an on-air reader for the Radio Reading Services radio station sponsored by the Cincinnati Association for the Blind. For three years, Wendell co-chaired the Mallory Center African American Heritage Celebration.
Wendell is an active member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church and sings in the Chancel and Gospel Choirs. He is an avid Cincinnati Bengals fan, and enjoys traveling, horseback riding, fishing, swimming, and staying home with a good book.
Wendell currently resides in North Avondale with his wife, Kathy, and two of their children.
