[edit] Biography
Mayor Mallory is a life-long Cincinnatian, born and raised in the West End. He is a graduate of the Cincinnati Academy of Math and Science and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Administrative Management from the University of Cincinnati. The Mallory family, led by Mayor Mallory’s mother, and his father, former Ohio House Majority Leader William L. Mallory, Sr., along with the Mayor’s brothers and sister, are dedicated to public and community service.
[edit] Ohio House and Senate
Before being elected Mayor, Mallory served in the Ohio General Assembly for nearly eleven years. In 1994, he was elected to his first of two terms in the Ohio House, replacing his father who retired after three decades in the legislature. In 1998, Mark Mallory defeated an incumbent Senator to be elected to the Ohio Senate. Mallory served in leadership for most of his tenure in the legislature and rose to the position of Assistant Minority Leader of the Senate.
[edit] Mayor
Mallory, previously assistant minority leader in the Ohio Senate, was elected to his first term in 2005. He was the second mayor, and the first African American, elected under a voter-approved “strong mayor” system. Prior to that, the City Council member receiving the most votes became mayor, with mostly ceremonial responsibilities.
On June 6, 2006 Mayor Mallory announced Milton R. Dohoney Jr. as his choice to be the next City Manager.
Mallory is running again as the incumbent in the 2009 Mayoral Election.
